Metamemory in older adults, preliminary results of a multifactorial training program

Background Cognitive intervention is a broad field that uses different means to increase or maintain these capacities. One of the aspects worked in memory training interventions refers beliefs about performance, control and aging regarding this function old age. More favorable towards age, performance capacity greater self-perceived are related successful feelings well-being. The aim present study evaluate older adults who took part program group subjects belonging same age group. Method Design: Comparative, pre-post, longitudinal study. Community dwelling over 60 years. Memory participants (n = 58) (M 70,04 years old; ds 8.07 years) controls 72) 69.92 7.31 were assed at begging end program. Instruments: Questionnaire Social Demographic Data (built ad hoc), Brief Neuropsychological assessment for attention. Metacognition: Control Capacity Inventory (MCI) -Metamemory Questionnaire. Procedure: All Intervention has duration 8 sessions 90 minutes each, where theoretical practical tools provided improve cognitive everyday life Program twice, with eight weeks difference between first second evaluation. Result Results reveal when comparing groups, statistically significant differences can be observed favor following aspects: Metamemory beliefs: satisfaction(z -3,376 p .001), z (-2.32- .050) Strategy (z -4.556- .000), total metamemory 4.620- .000) beliefs, aspect :aging independence concerns -2.526 .000). Conclusion It great significance incorporation assessment, observation meta-memory together programs adults. inclusion an approach help cognitively vulnerable promote healthy aging.
